About Me #
I'm Riya Bisht, known as @b1shtream on web, and my pronouns are she/her. At 22, I call the picturesque city of Dehradun-India, my home. I find joy in unraveling science and tech intricacies, debugging issues, and delving deep into different systems like lithographic systems (systems that makes FPGA systems), quantum systems (systems that exhibit quantum behaviour), learning systems (Machine learning/AI), spintronic systems (focuses on the spin of the electron), real time systems, quantized systems (systems where 16/32 bit data not needed and can work with 1/2/8 bit), operating systems (systems which operate on other systems like the hardware), reconfigurable systems (like FPGAS), digital systems (works on information 1's and 0's ), spatial systems or temporal systems (systems that work in space and time), visual systems, data processing systems ( von Neumann based systems ), compiler systems (converts high level language like C/Python/VHDL to machine readable form).
History ~
My love with technology began in childhood when I spent endless hours on my ThinkPad, modding games, burning Compact Disks, sketching characters for my fictional worlds, writing poems and immersing myself in books. These early passions eventually blossomed into a serious journey of research and hacking. My driving force? Using the power of technology to tackle scientific computing problems. The realm of computer science became my chosen path, motivated by a desire to shield our digital world from internet fraud and transform our science-fiction dreams into tangible reality.
I code primarily in C/C++ and Python. In the year 2024, my playground involved low-level tech like compilers. Previously, I was engrossed in the world of reproducible nix systems, distributed architectures, and the vast expanse of low-level space. One of my passions lies in the nix philosophy. I was building nixpie.xyz that tries to make Nix more accessible for those less tech-savvy. Then, I was working on a dream research project at Tiles Research as a systems researcher. Our mission was to advance the communication of human intent with machines to design a more natural way of working.
During the first half of 2025, I spent my time exploring systems for machine learning at Vicharak- a deeptech startup based in Surat, India where I hacked reconfigurable computing, FPGAs(Field Programmable Gate Arrays), domain specific architectures , and all things chips.
Present ~
I have joined Molecular Neurocomputing and Cognitive Systems(MoNCS) lab as a research project assistant at Center of Nanoscience and Engineering(CeNSE) Department in Indian Institute of Science(IISc), Bangalore to do research on energy-efficient molecular Memristor based in-memory and Neuromorphic Computing for Edge AI applications/ AI hardware under the guidance of Dr. Sreetosh Goswami.
Fun ~
I fancy vintage electronics, watching Mr. Neil deGrasse Tyson unraveling the mysteries of our universe and listening to all kinds of music- metal, slowcore, alternative indie rock/pop, and jazz. A rare find- a piece on the internet that is close to my heart. I love going on long nature walks, biking around, and playing badminton and lately, I’ve been trying to get the hang of lawn tennis too! Archiving my memories of IISc and Bengaluru here, would love to hear if you’ve had similar experiences or any interesting encounters of your own :))
Introspection ~
I am reading The Trial by Franz Kafka.
